eXPLORE THE COUNTRY
DISCOVER THE MUSIC
Brazilian music has as its greatest influence from African music, brought by slaves, with its freneticrhythms and rudimentary instruments. But this was not the only influence that came in Brazilian ports during the colonial period. European settlers brought the erudite, the dance hall, the evening partiesand religious music, totally contrasting with generally unison corners and responsories of the Indians. While, according to some historians, the miscegenation of people was a disgrace to Brazil, it was elementary to the cultural background of the country, and only had its official start after the abolition of slavery in 1888. The mixture of these different cultures has become responsible for what we know as Brazilian music today.
